The Aliens at the Studio

Good gig.  Openers were a local band LSD (Lithium Speed Dementia) and Lemonade a group living in Brooklyn (tee hee).

LSD (Lithium Speed Dementia) were a young trio from Hartlepool. I don’t imagine it’s an easy gig when your group makes up nearly half the people in the venue when you go onstage. For their later songs a friend[?] started to dance on his own in front of the stage.  for the last song two more people joined him and a few people in the crowd were singing along. At the moemnt their tracks sound a bit better in the studio (myspace) than live in The Studio. You can catch them in July at Dockfest.

When Lemonade came on the lead singer made a comment like “so you’re just going to sit there…” The answer to that is yes.  We don’t know you so unless you give us a good reason with what you do that is exactly what you’re going to get.  They used a bunch of samples some of which were cool but sometimes they combined in an unfortunate noise where you couldn’t distinguish what they were playing. The myspace tracks sound completely different to what they sounded like live. The myspace tracks have layers and samples and keyboards galore. Live um….not so much.

The Aliens came on. Former beta band members.  They had control of the crowd which was admittedly more full. People were drunk and dancing and loving life.  The lead singer has a good voice and the group harmonizes well. For their encore they played a meandering dance beat with random lyrics from the songs from the set being sung. I don’t know the songs well enough to know if it was a forward then backwards setlist. There was some good crowd interaction and slight bemusement at a drunk woman dancing on stage and grabbing hold of a tambourine to play along.

Seems that the crowd at The Studio does loud was better than they do mellow.
