Good gig. Openers were a local band LSD (Lithium Speed Dementia) and Lemonade a group living in Brooklyn (tee hee).
LSD (Lithium Speed Dementia) were a young trio from Hartlepool. I don’t imagine it’s an easy gig when your group makes up nearly half the people in the venue when you go onstage. For their later songs a friend[?] started to dance on his own in front of the stage. for the last song two more people joined him and a few people in the crowd were singing along. At the moemnt their tracks sound a bit better in the studio (myspace) than live in The Studio. You can catch them in July at Dockfest.
When Lemonade came on the lead singer made a comment like “so you’re just going to sit there…” The answer to that is yes. We don’t know you so unless you give us a good reason with what you do that is exactly what you’re going to get. They used a bunch of samples some of which were cool but sometimes they combined in an unfortunate noise where you couldn’t distinguish what they were playing. The myspace tracks sound completely different to what they sounded like live. The myspace tracks have layers and samples and keyboards galore. Live um….not so much.
The Aliens came on. Former beta band members. They had control of the crowd which was admittedly more full. People were drunk and dancing and loving life. The lead singer has a good voice and the group harmonizes well. For their encore they played a meandering dance beat with random lyrics from the songs from the set being sung. I don’t know the songs well enough to know if it was a forward then backwards setlist. There was some good crowd interaction and slight bemusement at a drunk woman dancing on stage and grabbing hold of a tambourine to play along.
Seems that the crowd at The Studio does loud was better than they do mellow.
Just got back from Morrissey at Hartlepool Borough Hall. Love the 10 minute ride home. Will write more soon for now: Setlist exactly as written on one of the official setlists - snapped a crappy cell phone picture of it from the guy who got it.

“Families across Hartlepool are being urged to support Walk to School Week by leaving their cars at home and making the daily “school run” on foot.
The week-long national campaign which takes place twice a year, will run from May 18-22.
It aims to highlight the traffic problems that exist outside many schools due to the increasing numbers of children who travel to school by car, and raise awareness of the environmental and health benefits associated with walking.”
The Lightning Seeds are headlining on the Saturday. Used to own CloudCuckooLand so am psyched about this.
There was a classic car rally held in the car park of Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience yesterday. There were loads of cars, gorgeous weather and a great crowd. I will be posting photos soon.
My faves were the Edsel, a couple of Pontiacs that reminded me of my childhood, the minis and the Rovers. We just got a new (old) Rover which may have affected me.
Clockworks in the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre has a new tumblelog.

The tumblelog is a new blog by Billy Guerin the owner and can be found at: http://clockworks.tumblr.com
When is 24 hours not 24 hours?
When you try to go to ASDA or Tesco after 10:00 PM on a Saturday night…24 Hours is written in huge letters and you have to get really close to read the fine print. They only mean on weekdays. They close at 22:00 on a Saturday and are open on Sunday from at 10:00 - 16:00.
At least the ATMs at ASDA are outside so it wasn’t a totally wasted journey.
Hartlepool Council’s Countryside Wardens are leading a three-mile coastal walk on Friday January 2, with the route going from Seaton Carew to the mouth of the River Tees with breaks to appreciate wildlife / landscape and the history of the area.
Walkers should meet at Seaton Carew bus station clock tower at 10am. The walk will last apprximately four hours.
This will be the first in a series of three “Sands of Time” walks which will cover the entire Hartlepool coastline from Hart Warren to the Tees. For more information contact the Countryside Wardens at 07785 371513.
There are about 30 tickets left from the Tourist Information Centre - the ones they have are standing room for the balcony - thought hey say you might be able to go downstairs once the show starts. You can order them by calling 01429 869706
