Hartlepool United vs. West Ham

Hartlepool made it into the fourth round of the FA Cup.  For those not into soccer/football check out the wikipedia article for an explanation.

Teams from different leagues get to play each other in a random draw. Getting into the fourth round was a big deal.  They played admirably and lost to West Ham on 2 goals gotten at the end of the first half.

Driving by Victoria Park the night before we saw loads of media trucks parked outside ready for the big match and ASDA was selling commemorative scarves to mark the occasion.

Hartlepool Council’s Countryside Wardens are leading a three-mile coastal walk on Friday January 2, with the route going from Seaton Carew to the mouth of the River Tees with breaks to appreciate wildlife / landscape and the history of the area.

Walkers should meet at Seaton Carew bus station clock tower at 10am. The walk will last apprximately four hours.

This will be the first in a series of three “Sands of Time” walks which will cover the entire Hartlepool coastline from Hart Warren to the Tees. For more information contact the Countryside Wardens at 07785 371513.

Tickets go on sale on Friday for Morrissey at Hartlepool Borough Hall May 20th….Tickets available here as of Friday.

Observe the seals and birds inhabiting the Teesmouth National Nature Reserve this weekend.

Hartlepool Council’s Countryside Wardens are staging a seal watch on Saturday (November 15) from 10am-12pm.

Viewing will take place from the British Energy observation hide.

Must book by contacting the Countryside Wardens on (01429) 853325. Those taking part should meet at the Teesmouth Field Centre on the Hartlepool Power Station approach road, off the A178 Tees Road.

On Friday 21 November, have a cup of tea while speaking with retired miners at Hartlepool Central Library in York Road

Staff from Beamish Museum will be on hand with mining-related objects and local author and historian Maureen Anderson will be signing copies of her new book ‘Durham Mining Disasters 1700-1950s.’

The free event starts at 2pm and refreshments will be provided.

Guided walk along the former route of the  Stockton and Darlington Railway. The mile-long walk is on Sunday 16 November and will follow the section of track bed which now falls within the grounds of Preston Park in Eaglescliffe. It will be led by Robin Daniels of Tees Archaeology.

The walk is free with no need to book. Meet outside the main entrance to Preston Hall Museum at 10am and wear suitable footwear.
